The Société québécoise de la douleur - Quebec Pain Society is a group of professionals, specialists in multiple fields, who work to improve the management of chronic pain in Quebec.  The aims of the Society are: 

  • Promote multidisciplinarity in pain clinics 
  • Foster continuing education 
  • Create training programs 
  • Provide political and financial support for pain management centres.  

The Quebec Pain Society organises meetings on chronic pain topics.  The theme of their last conference, held in November 2013 was "Novelty in pain management".  The complete program is available on the Quebec Pain Society website (6 credits).

The Association québécoise de la douleur chronique

The Quebec Chronic Pain Association - Association québécoise de la douleur chronique (AQDC) has a program of fellowships, developed to favor clinical training of healthcare professionals.  This program offers scholarships to healthcare professionals of all specialties: doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacists or others, to improve their knowledge about pain.  More details on the AQDC website: http://www.douleurchronique.org/content_new.asp?node=103&lang=fr

Training

McGill University - Online Graduate Certificate in Chronic Pain Management

The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at McGill University offers a 12 credit online course for healthcare professionals. The program is relevant for the following professionals:

  • medicine
  • nursing
  • occupational therapy
  • pharmacology
  • physical therapy
  • psychology
  • related disciplines.

This certificate is an ongoing collaboration between the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy and the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain to provide healthcare professionals with the most recent and relevant approaches and technologies for the care and management of chronic pain. It is offered in French and in English.

Université de Sherbrooke - Microprogrammes d'évaluation et de gestion de la douleur chronique (2ème cycle)

Through the years, the Université de Sherbrooke has developed a praised infrastructure for pain research and chronic pain management. These last years, two postgraduate trainings have been offered to healthcare professionals in order to acquire more knowledge and skills in pain management.

This training aims to:

  • Understand the pain physiology in order to propose optimal therapies.
  • Assess pain with the most relevant tools
  • Propose specific pain management plans for targeted subpopulations or in the case of complex cases
  • Develop an interdisciplinary approach for managing pain.
