Dr. Manon Choinière, pain research specialist explains chronic pain and its impact in a recent televised interview

In an interview given for the launch of the National Chronic Pain Awareness Week, Dr. Manon Choinière, researcher at the CRCHUM and Professor of Anesthesiology at the Université de Montréal explains what chronic pain is, and how it affects all aspects of the lives of people suffering from this burden.  She highlights the importance of managing pain by the use of pain medication and deplores the fact that many chronic pain patients are still stigmatised and do not receive the treatment they require.  It is estimated that 20% of the population suffer from chronic pain.  

Dr. Choinière also announced the many conferences organized during the chronic pain awareness week in collaboration with the Association québécoise de la douleur chronique and supported by the Quebec Pain Research Network. Dr. Choiniere invites the public to visit the douleurchronique.org website.  The events are also listed on the pain portal calendar.
